Last updated: 10 August 2026

Who is responsible for your information?

Dr. Tilahun Mekonnen is the data controller for personal information submitted through this portfolio website. Privacy enquiries and data-rights requests can be sent to tilahun.mekonnen@shu.ac.uk.

Information collected

When you use the enquiry form, the website collects your name, email address, subject, message and, where applicable, the publication you selected. The public website does not use analytics, advertising trackers or non-essential cookies. The protected CMS uses one strictly necessary authentication cookie for administrators.

Purpose and lawful basis

Your information is used only to receive, review and respond to your enquiry, maintain an appropriate correspondence record and protect the form against misuse. The lawful basis is legitimate interests under UK GDPR Article 6(1)(f): responding to professional, academic, supervision, publication and speaking enquiries that you choose to submit. Your details are not added to a marketing list.

Sharing and international transfers

Information is handled by the website hosting, database and configured email providers only as necessary to deliver the service. Their locations and contractual safeguards depend on the providers selected by the site operator. Personal information is not sold. Before production launch, the operator should verify each provider’s data-processing terms and international-transfer safeguards.

Retention

Enquiries stored by the website are automatically deleted after 365 days unless they need to be retained longer for an active correspondence, legal obligation or the establishment, exercise or defence of legal claims. Email copies may be subject to the administrator’s institutional email-retention policy.

Your rights

Depending on the circumstances, you may have rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction and objection. You have the right to object to processing based on legitimate interests. Contact the address above to exercise a right. You may also complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint.

Security and required information

Reasonable technical and organisational measures are used, including encrypted production transport, access-controlled administration, password hashing, request throttling and data minimisation. The form’s required information is needed to respond; if it is not provided, the enquiry cannot be submitted. No automated decision-making or profiling is used.
